NDSU Extension Service Brine Spill Café Talk in Killdeer

On April 27, 2017

Today NWLA Executive Director, Amy Shelton, made the beautiful drive to Killdeer for the second talk on produced salt water spills in North Dakota. 15 people attended this meeting from all different industries; including several large oil companies, Dunn County Forest Services, a representative from Senator Heitkamp’s office, Dunn County Commissioner, and Dunn County Emergency Manager.

Denise Brew, Dunn Co. Emergency Manager, stated during the meeting, there have been more spills so far this year than days of the year. However, she said spills have been cleaned up immediately; with the most common for of remediation being the scoop and haul option.

The slow down in the oil industry has been welcomed by landowners in Dunn County, as this has given them the opportunity to “catch up”. Landowners expressed the need for better lines of communication between themselves and the oil companies when a spill occurs.

The NWLA encourages landowners to communicate with each other about happenings in the area, and keep an eye out for any spills that may occur. It is very important to report the spill immediately and take pictures for your records.

The third and final Brine Spill Café Talk will be held on April 27, in Stanley from 9-11AM.
